Every time a glib Sorcerer of the Academy of Doors claims that travel between worlds is safe and scientific, one of your kind pulls itself out of oblivion. Glass-toothed portals opened in fear, rage, or ignorance take a grim toll: Thread, the fabric of self and story. Most of the time, lost Thread simply fades away, forgotten.  

Sometimes it wakes up.
